Polynucleotides are an exciting new generation of injectable skin treatments designed to repair, regenerate, and revitalise the skin at a cellular level. Unlike traditional fillers, they don’t add volume – instead, they act as powerful biostimulators, encouraging the skin to heal and rebuild itself naturally. Made from highly purified DNA fragments (derived from salmon or trout), polynucleotides are biocompatible and safe, with decades of clinical use in regenerative medicine before being adapted for aesthetics.
Once injected into the skin, polynucleotides stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, improve hydration, boost cell turnover, reduce inflammation and improve tissue quality – restoring elasticity, firmness, and overall skin health. This makes them particularly effective for treating tired, crepey, or ageing skin, as well as acne scars, under-eye hollows, pigmentation and general skin laxity.
The initial course is a series of 3 to 4 sessions, spaced 2–4 weeks apart. Top-up treatments may be needed every 6–12 months, depending on skin condition and goals. Different formulations are used for different treatments and if skin is particularly dehydrated, a combination treatment which includes hyaluronic acid (HA) is recommended.
Brands used include Vitaran®, Plinest® and Newest®.
